SzYFG 26 Rules
& Bylaws
OVERVIEW
Szatch-Yur-Football-Game Fantasy Football was developed originally in
1990. Phil has, & continues to develop the scoring system. The modern
era of the league is considered to have started the first year more than 2 coaches
participated; year10, making 2025-26 SzYFG26 of the modern era. We are a dynasty
keeper league with a draft & salaries only for gameday roster (starters). The
league is set up for an ideal size of 12 teams, but 14 could one day happen if we chose to
eliminate 1 of the 3 flex spots for each team.
Managing a team
Rosters are 15 players + 3 IR slots.
There are no position max limit restrictions, but a minimum of 1 each of course.
QB,HB,WR,TFE(=te & fb),DEF(=team defence)
Keepers
Teams keep [potentially] a different total
of players from one year to the next. A league vote will determine the
number, with the reigning Champ always getting an extra keeper as well. A bell
curve set of formulas is used by the commish to determine keeper status; ask if you are
unsure. We can also give up our 1st round picks to keep an extra players.
If a team keeps one less than they are allotted, they get an extra supplemental pick at the end of the round that would get a typical team to 8 players.
You can keep 1 extra player in lieu of first pick as long as you still own any first round pick including one you traded for. This includes the prior winner who could keep their second extra player.
There is no option to keep an extra player and forgo your second round pick however you may keep as many extra players as first round picks you own.
Team A can trade Team B their extra keeper so long as their combined keepers are equal to what they otherwise would have been. For Example, keeper vote is 4 and Team A trades Tom Brady to team B and team A gets an extra keeper. Team A gets 5 keepers and Team B gets 3. Since the total keepers is still 8 between the two teams, this is valid. Team A could also forgo their first pick and keep 6 players. Team B may NOT receive a supplemental pick until the end of the draft, prior to the IR draft unless Team B keeps just 2 players, since this would count as keeping one less than they qualify for. Team B could also keep one extra if they forgo their first pick. So long as Team A + Team B's rosters equal the allotted 8 keepers + 2 first round picks = 10 picks after the first round (minus any supplementals), this is legal.
FRANCHISE PLAYERS
Once a player **enters** his 5th season
on the same SZYFG team (starts ON their 5th year), they receive a $25 upgrade to salary
from the default $alary for that year. Each team has ONE exemption from this rule,
naming one player the Franchise player, & any others in their 5th yr or more receiving
a $25 cost increase over the default $alary. They may however, be redrafted the next
year & restart their time at year1. This STARTS on
their 5th season.
The Draft
Draft order is not worst finish to first from the yr before, the
playoffs have a losers bracket that one must win out on to gain their position; meaning if
you dont win that last week, you wont get the top pick, but we have bonuses for the home
team in this, and a reverse version of it for the losers bracket, called The Other Bowl.
Salaries $2000 (since yr05)
We have a salary cap for the starters. There is no cap for the whole
team. Our salaries are created by Szatch's computations. That's about all you
need to know cause I'm a better doer than explainer/teacher. :) (For SZYFG04 it was
$1825. For SZYFG03 it was $1900)
Deadlines
**Now that the NFL has Thursday games every week, players starting for
you in that game must be announced, including which sub they might be by kickoff thursday.
The rest must be announced by Sunday 1pm. Yahoo is our official site
for seeing eachothers starters. subs can be listed using either the league message
board or the team slogan spot. While you may make subs between 2 guys playing
a late game, I prefer that You can submit it as early as you wish & still make changes
to the last minute. the earlier you get it in, the easier my weekend job becomes (changing
1 last minute item in the file is easier than 9). Failure to submit a lineup results
in a '0' for your weekly score. I am flexible guys, & we all are everywhere in
the world doing all sorts of things, but we are now also all on smart phones. If you can't
use the App, email the league ( or anyone), then call. Call me or Dan, or even another
coach ... anyone to verify you had your lineup in on time. Your own
girlfriends & mothers don't count unless they email/call me before 1pm.
Coaches can swap players in the late games with other late game
players up until kickoff of those players' games.
++Our TRADE deadline is 1pm ET on the first Sunday following the NFL trade deadline. Trades must be approved and effective for these 1PM games.
Penalties
(upgraded for SZYFG14)
$alary penalties: -25 for every $25 over the
cap. That means from +$1 to +$25 is -25, +$26 to +$50 is -50, and so on
LATE LINEUPS
-25 PER LATE (or not submitted) AS OF SUNDAY 1PM ET.
This goes to -50 for the 2nd one -75 and so on
-10 for starting a person on a bye
Starting Lineups
*1 OF EACH REQ'D, for a combined total of 8 starters:
That means 5 req'd & 3 flex positions
pos. MAX
QB 2
HB 3
WR 4
TE 3
DEF 3
totaling=8
Subsitutes
+Subs MUST be listed if you want to have one
used should one of your guys get INJ. I am not making anyone's decisions for them. I
suggest listing **3** subs, generally trying to cover everything from co$t to position
need based on your starters, but so long as you list someone, I will use whomever is
listed, in order of listing, until the $alary (1st sub might be too pricey to fit under
the cap) and Position rules (limits of #per position & required positions) are cleared
for you, but again, I will not search a roster to find someone to put in.
The ONLY exception is if you have ONLY 2 players at a position and only start one of them
(usually a QB or TE); then I will insert the other for you. If you have 3 QB, and start
one, and your subs are a TE & a DEF, I will not choose a QB sub for you, should you
need one.
WHEN A SUB IS USED: A player is subbed out if he is injured in the first half & does
not return in the 2nd half. Sometimes a guy will come in early in the 2nd and try a play
and say 'Heck no, can't go on this ankle, I'll allow that sub. YOU MAY KEEP THE INJ PLAYER
in the lineup if you wish (rarely someone goes off in first 1/2 before being injured), but
please do this WAY before I've already scored and posted the scores.
+Thursday games EVERY WEEK in the NFL, so remember that. You don't get to announce on
Sunday that someone is starting [or is your 1st sub] who played Thursday. This is
considered an illegal lineup, same as if you start someone on a BYE... No subs will be
given in these cases. **use of yahoo atleast once between Monday AM and Thursday
dinnertime will keep this from being an issue for you.
+Failure to contact me in any way to atleast say 'keep it the same' is considered an
abandoned week and comes with a 0 for your weekly score. This is a rule because this is
not some dopey free rookie league, this is an active league and if you aren't contacting
me at all, it's likely you've also not replied to other coaches with trade offers or
whatever, or read my awesome weekly writeups and occasional leaguewide blogs.
+Submitting your lineup can be done via phone or text but EVERYONE CAN GET ON THE
INTERNET, and into yahoo, so I expect your help in easing my workload by inserting your
own lineup on yahoo AND your subs into the 'team slogan' line located just above your
players and below your teamname there. *OR, SUBS sent as a msg on the leaguesite if you
are using a mobile App to submit there.
****This a requirement this season, though MY website remains the official scoring, since
noone else in the world has as comprehensive scoring system as the SZYFG
+++For those of you/us who often submit lineups early ['early' means Wednesday, not Sunday
at Noon instead of 12:59pm :) ) Just let me know if you make any last second changes on
Sunday on Yahoo, because, like right now, I am inserting those lineups into my files
tonight.
+REMEMBER ON YAHOO...ALWAYS ONE STARTING POSITION SHOULD BE LEFT OPEN.. EITHER THE 2nd
DEFENCE, OR THE QB/HB/WR/TE (last) FLEX SLOT. SZYFG STARTS 8
+Remember, all FA acquisitions must be kept on the team for 2 weeks, even if it's in one
of your 3 IR slots
New specifications for SZYFG 21 (2020):
Subs are not required this year. If you don't list them, you don't get them. There will be no penalty
for not listing subs but they should be listed for keeper requirements and the obvious substitute situation when applicable. To have
a substitute subbed in for an injured or zero touch starter, you must alert Phil or Collin. This
is much easier for a team manager to do than for us to manage everyone's team.
The Darrell
Jackson Rule [added yr14] Injuries: If the
player is not targeted at all on the NFL boxscores.
(listed as "0tch" on the roster file), they can be
subbed out, but NOW, yr14, if they ARe targetted even ONCE, they cannot be. This is
mainly a WR/Te siutaion. A 2nd [non injured] sub in order to make the injury sub fit under
the cap is NOT allowed; manage your salaries.
Free Agents & Waivers
From Sunday 1pm until Monday 9pm, there is a freeze on making moves
with players who have already played. A team can still change a player playing in a
late/Monday game for another doing the same. At 9pm Monday, WAIVERS starts.
Email requests to the League Office. On Tuesday at 7pm, I will process all
the waivers, with the Waiver ordered determined by the current standings, and ties broken
by Least Points cored ranking higher. After the Commisioner sends out the processed
players, it becomes a free-for-all until Sunday 1pm. Thursday players must meet all
the requirements set above.
Required Stints
NORMAL: Starting with week1, not post-draft-pre wk1, An
added player must stay on the team for TWO weeks.
IR: (injured reserve) stints are THREE weeks per, &
may include players who are benched in the NFL. There is no limit to the length of a
players stay on IR but if healthy in the NFL, he cannot be resigned to the IR. Each
team has 3 IR slots.
***ROOKIES each get one free (injury or not) (3week) stint on the IR.
SCORING
Box Scores from Monday's USA Today are considered official. But
Yahoo Sports is what I score from on Sundays. In times of error, multiple sources
will be consulted to verify. Sunday in-game stats ain't official, nor are Prime Time's..
When any 2 teams are tied [within 8pt of eachother], I will rescore it the next day, &
is the only time 2pt conversions will be used. Noone's perfect; check your team's score
v's what I get to verify. NFL routinely recounts them itself, meaning
sometimes changes are made late Sunday night).
TO BREAK A TIE in the
standings
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more teams in the same division finish
with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a
tiebreaker-champion is determined. Note: When multiple teams are tied, we go thru the
steps 'til one is gone, then start over with the first step again
1.HD2HD (cumulative hd2hd2hd if 3 or more teams)
1b. (if divisions are being used): DIVISION Record
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage v's teams not in the tie but IN THE PLAYOFFS.
3. Highest total points in all games.
ADD THE RANKS OF THOSE STATS TOGETHER AND GET
WINNER, THEN RESTART
4. Highest Point Total in Series (used for a SPLIT)
5. Highest Point Total in games v's teams not in the tie.
6. Highest Point Total v's Top Teams
7. Best net touchdowns minus fumbles lost in all games.
8. Strength of schedule. (formula as yet undetermined)
UPCOMING RULES CHANGES &
SCORING CONSIDERATIONS:
THIS YEAR WE WILL USE FORCED-FUMBLES INSTEAD OF FUMBLES RECOVERED, B/C THEY
ARE AVAILABLE IN ALL NON BOX SCORE STATISTICAL WEBSITES WHILE FUMBLES-RECOVERED ARE NOT
